Both Govanhill Baths and Leigh Spinner Mill have recently been featured in podcast episodes sharing their histories, reuse, and all the incredible community work our members do at these sites. Podcasts are a brilliant way to promote your site and organisation, so well done to our members for having this opportunity. We thought this was a great time to tell you about the episodes, and what these members do.
Govanhill Baths
Network members Govanhill Baths Community Trust recently had their site featured on the BBC show Archive on 4, hosted by Denise Mina. The episode 'The People's Pool' reveals the story of the Govanhill Baths, from its birth as a leading lady of Glasgow’s Municipal Socialist infrastructure, to its many reuses over the last 150 years. Structured as a more documentary style podcast, archival audio of the Baths and oral history interviews tell the the wider histories of Baths all over the UK and the incredible story of the campaigners who occupied the building for 7 months to save the pool. Leigh Spinners Mill
Another of our members in Greater Manchester were recently featured in Kevin McCloud's podcast 'Big Design Adventure'. In the episode, McCloud and his co-host Tim Ross sit down with consultant and heritage expert Catherine Dewar to talk about reuse of industrial heritage. The group also got a tour of the site in the podcast: the artists studios, businesses, cinema and cafes that make up this centre of the community. As we all agree here the episode title is "Don't knck the bloody thing down" - Listen to S3 Ep8 wherever you listen to podcasts (external link) (opens in new tab).
